Diary: “I'm expecting!”

This is not about me, let me make it clear -- I'm not pregnant.

I got a LINE message from a friend of mine who's living in America.

She got married to an American man a few years ago.

She wrote: "I'm expecting!" in English, and I was so glad to see this word.

The sentence "I'm expecting" may sound unfamiliar or incomplete,

but it is a term often used to mean "I'm having a baby" (or i got pregnant).

The word 'expecting' means having someone to come, or waiting for someone/something.

But just saying "I'm expecting" means they're having a baby.

Well, this news made my day! So happy for her!

I told her that I will send her anything from Japan.

(Her parents are in another country, and so is her sister.)

She says she may want some Japanese-looking-clothes for her baby.

Maybe a baby Yukata will be a great present for her :)

Anyways, ever since I got this message,

I've been thinking about what to buy and send to her across the sea.

Anyone has any suggestions?

でも、この文言は「赤ちゃんができた！（妊娠した！）」という意味でよく使われます。

Expectingという単語自体は、誰かが来る時に使ったり、期待しているという意味ですが、

"I'm expecting"単体で使う場合は、赤ちゃんが生まれるということを意味します。

とにかく、この知らせで良い１日になりました！本当に嬉しいです！

日本から何でも送るからね、と伝えました。

（彼女の両親は他国に住んでいて、彼女のお姉さんも同じです）

彼女は、赤ちゃんに日本っぽい服がほしいかもと言いました。

赤ちゃん用の浴衣なんて、良いプレゼントになるかもしれません！

海を超えて何を彼女に買って贈ろうかということばかり考えています。
